OK, so you have decided to build your own web site. Good on you, you are going to have fun.
So lets get started...
As I mentioned on the previous page, there are 3 vital components to setting up a web site. If you are just starting out then I strongly recommend you go with a FREE site, one that offers all 3 components in the same package, and one that is very easy to set up and manage. For this, I recommend Weebly.com, it is what I use and it works perfectly for my needs.
Why do I recommend that, and what do I get with a FREE package?
I don't want to put you off, but the facts are that over 90% of on-line business fail within the first few months, so with that in mind I think it is prudent to start off free. Don't get me wrong, I want you to succeed, just like I want to succeed, but it pays to be realistic also, and besides, there are always opportunities to upgrade later.
The FREE package is still quite a comprehensive package, the main difference being in the Domain Name and what features are available. To use the FREE option with Weebly.com you must include 'weebly' in the Domain Name
ie you will note my web address for this site is www.succeedwithbrian.weebly.com
The PAID version, however, doesn't require 'weebly' to be included, which obviously looks more professional, but at the end of the day it is only a link that customers are clicking on, so it isn't a major issue at this point.
ie for my web site and if I changed to the PAID version, it would become www.succeedwithbrian.com
It is obviously your decision as to which option you choose, and that will depend entirely on your budget and personal preferences.
So to get started, simply click on the weebly banner below and be taken directly to their site.
Fill out all your details in the spaces provided, choose a Domain Name (remember to choose a Domain Name that is
related to your product or service, or something with your name in, this is important for search engines when ranking your site).
It is at this point you decide whether to go for the FREE option or the PAID option, so browse through the
costs involved and make an informed decision based on your circumstances. If the Domain Name isn't available you will be prompted for another name, keep going until you get the one you want.
Then the fun begins, you start to put your site together (remember the jigsaw puzzle I talked about?). Be creative and colourful, use personal photos and images, but above all do not clutter your site, potential customers will be put off if
they can't navigate around your site easily.
Have fun, and as always, should you require any help please contact me, I am only too happy to help.
